This process isn’t about who spends the most on marketing or who can generate the most buzz. It’s about authentic craftsmanship, honest experiences, and the pursuit of perfection in flavor, texture, and tradition.

Digital Review & Analysis
We analyze thousands of online reviews, ratings, photos, and mentions to identify patterns of excellence.
The Shortlist
Our team narrows the field to a select group of bakeries demonstrating consistently high praise for quality, hospitality, and originality.
Anonymous Visits
Members of our team visit bakeries unannounced to experience their cinnamon rolls exactly as any guest would — without special treatment or advanced notice.
Final Evaluation
Rolls are judged on flavor, texture, balance, frosting ratio, presentation, and that intangible sense of magic that makes something truly memorable.
How We Roll
Inside the Judging Process
Every cinnamon roll we evaluate is judged using our official World’s Best Cinnamon Rolls Judging Sheet — a standardized scoring system inspired by professional food competitions.
During each unannounced visit, our judges quietly rate the cinnamon rolls on seven key categories: presentation, aroma, texture, flavor balance, frosting ratio, freshness, and the all-important “magic factor.” Each category is scored from 1 to 10, creating a total possible score of 70 points.
The form helps our team maintain consistency, fairness, and objectivity across every bakery we visit, from small-town mom-and-pop shops to global favorites. It’s the backbone of our year-long search for the world’s most extraordinary cinnamon rolls and the reason our results are trusted around the globe.
Why We Keep It Quiet
We intentionally do not publish the names of the 12 finalists or announce when visits will occur. This ensures our visits remain completely authentic and free from bias. We want to experience each bakery’s everyday excellence, not a performance.

Can a bakery nominate itself?
Yes. We welcome self-nominations through our public contact form. Every submission is reviewed equally.
How are finalists chosen?
Finalists are selected through a combination of review data, reputation analysis, and internal research. Those who meet our quality benchmarks move into the anonymous visit phase.
Are bakeries notified before a visit?
No. All visits are completely anonymous. This ensures fairness and prevents any special preparation that could skew results.
Why don’t you release the names of the finalists?
We want to preserve the integrity of the process. By keeping finalists confidential, we can ensure our visits and tastings represent what customers experience on a normal day.
Who decides the winner?
A small panel within World’s Best Cinnamon Rolls conducts tastings, scores results, and discusses findings collectively. The process remains internal to prevent external influence or lobbying.
We announce the World’s Best Cinnamon Roll each December, after a year-long search that begins every October 4th on National Cinnamon Roll Day.
